Primitivo is a dark-skinned grape which is known to produce wines full of tannins.

A wine made with Primitivo grapes is usually a wine high in alcohol and tannins, deeply flavoured and coloured.

The name Primitivo means "early one", which means the ripening of this grape variety takes place in the vine before all the other grape varieties do and this leads to a robust character.
